Wanted - Ignition Control Module

Post by 420 SE » Sat 12 Aug, 2017 4:48 pm

Anyone have/know of a good ignition control module for the 420?

My friend who is keeping my car while I am away has had a diagnosis of a failed module and been quoted between $2000 - $7000 for a new one :nono:

The car is currently in Victoria.

Bummer Ross.. I hope you source one quickly, and for a LOT less money..

Maybe you could amend your postings with the Bosch number listed on the unit?
Who knows.. maybe someone might have one by that number in hand...

Good luck man..

Do you have part number? Is it with knock sensors and 2x 8-pin connectors? Or older, without knock and 2x 4-pin connectors?

I don't have the part number as I am over 7000kms away from the car and the person keeping it for me has no idea what it looks like, but it is the 8 pin with knock sensor later version.

what is the part number?

I seem to recall seeing one in a friends crate of 8 pin EZL's I bench tested for him. No promises he will want to sell itm but he has no 420's & no interest in them - 560 & 500 enthusiast Kimrh.

I dont remember if it was a pass or fail but clearly marked the dud ones for him

Personally, If the car was a keeper I'd consider installing Dkubus with ignition control too so you can laptop tune injection and ignition and never worry about fragile EZL's ever again. The guy is on the ozbenz facebook page. Who can tell if that second hand one you buy for 500-800 doesnt blow again in 2 weeks time ?

Anyone you know of here have a Dkubus system installed? I'll be considering that in future. Also looking at their torque converters for when my transmission needs rebuild - they're apparently performance oriented and suit all W126's.

Did you get it sorted? the Modules are super expensive if you can find one. But i did see a place in the US on ebay who rebuild them, plus other rootable Mercedes components which tend to fail more often than they should. there cost is around $450 avererage. As for going to hassle of replacing it with something else, it is fraught with issues because the EZL doesn't only trigger the coil it also adjusts the timing according to load and engine temperature (a couple of hints there if a dud module is suspected. ) It also sends a tach signal to the fuel pump relay and air con clutch relay whilst adjusting timing to suit those too. I would imagine a substitute is going to be costly just because of those features.

I fried mine and my Auto elec sourced a replacement from Berrie Green here in Adelaide I think. There are a couple of workshops here in SA that have a few parts lying around. Could be worth ringing some specialist workshops. Time consuming but could save $$$$$

There are a couple of other very reputable repairers here in Aust that might be able to help out-
http://australianecurepair.com.au

The ICM is a sealed unit though and filled with Gel
Have a read of this article which comes with pics of what is inside the black box
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s- ... efore.html
They are usually expensive to repair and the vacuum set up is damaged when you open it

However this overseas business states they repair and warranty our W126 ICM's

And so does this overseas business which also warranties them
