Water pooling under carpet 82 300D

Post by jethro66 » Sat 20 May, 2017 2:27 pm

If I had a dollar for every time it has rained in Townsville in the last year then I would have two.

After the first rain event which was torrential, I found half an inch of water in the back left side footwell and soaked underlay in the front left. Right hand side was dry.

Two day rain event just passed and left hand side completely dry and right hand side showing the exact same problem as above.

Aircon was updated to new gas before purchase but not working so got that fixed before either event mentioned above just to fill you in.

I have felt the occasional droplet of water on my foot when driving with aircon on and heavy rain but this is excessive.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yours humbly

Jethro

Check under your bonnet hinges as this is a common rust area on 123's....which then lets water onto your feet... :wall:

a. Windscreen seal is not keeping water out.
Water dribbles down side in front of door frame and accumulates under the front carpet from where it moves by gravity to the rear foot wells.
b. Sunroof drains, which often rust out, causing the same symptoms.
I have this issue on my 300CD, drivers side only.
c. Air conditioner drain hose which passes thru the transmission tunnel (I think) and if it is damaged inside the cabin, water can accumulate in the rear foot well

Unusual that in the first event, one side was wet and the other dry and next event the wet has swapped to the other side.
Wind direction an issue?
Door seals?

Thanks guys for your prompt replies. I will check hinges and I had the thought that it may be the aircon accumulating over time which I only noticed due to the rain. No sunroof in the old girl fortunately. Original underlay on the right is no more and has been replaced with woolen underlay so this may be a clue.

Take care all

I just took a ride with the aircon on and there is a bit of water accumulating on the left front footwell. I think gents it may be a case of all of the above playing a part.
