OZBENZ turns 15, Happy Birthday.

Post by John Green » Tue 02 May, 2017 7:30 pm

About time we started celebrating our milestones.

On this day 15 years ago, the very first post was made in what was then the OZVETS mailing list. Overtime this became the OZVETS forum and then the OZBENZ forum. And what do you think was the very first post?

"It works"

It was made on Thu, 02 May 2002 16:08:38 +1000 by yours truly as a quick check to make sure it worked. We then went public announcing it to the world via the next MB Spares Newsletter.

https://www.mbspares.com.au/Information ... sfor1.aspx

A month later we have 49 members and from there on we have continued to grow and evolve. The Biggest change of late is the new OZBENZ FaceBook community which is also a string identity.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/ozbenz/

We also have a presence on Twitter.

https://twitter.com/ozbenzcommunity?lang=en

So congratulations to the founding members who are still here, and to everyone else that has helped make OZBENZ the successful online community that it is. You can all give yourself a virtual pat on the back..

Hi,
congrats to all of you who make it happen! This is the best forum I know and I am happy to be a member for 11 years now!

What excels this forum is the members and the way the communication is done, i. e. mutual respect.

I hope this enjoyable "together" will continue ... I'm prepared to contribute with whatever I can!

Regards
Thomas

Congratulations everyone. Its been so long that my senility has me sitting here trying to remember what the original US based mailing list was called - had 'vets' in it and where the Ozvets came out of. And never worked out why 'veteran' - Veterans of the battle to keep these thing on the road?

Special thanks from me to JG who has been there helping us all for much more than the 15 years and the 'father' of all this and special mention also for Joe, who has carried that batton. I can remember posts of Joe looking for a Stella but can't remember how long ago that was.

Thomas, you have reminded me of why the Forum started in the first place. CraigB, the name you can't remember is "The Vets List". This was a world wide mailing list started in Switzerland by a good fiend of mine and then moved to Canada where it started to attract a lot of US interest. There being quite some difference between how us Aussies and the Yanks discussed each others problems, I decided to start an Australian based list with Davide Frada helping with the admin. Ever since then we have had that attitude that you refer to and it is something that all forum members should be proud of.

Just found this post from way back which details the history of the forum a little better.....

And yes, dial up internet, what a joy that was...

I was talking to the wife last night about social media.

I boasted that I was not on Facebook, and therefore not addicted to social media.

HOWEVER, Ozbenz could just as well be seen as some sort of Facebook for Merc nutters... :blackeye:

Happy Birthday Ozbenz and thanks to everyone for allowing us our addiction :laughing6:

Wow its been that long. :occasion4:

The vets list was always a good refuge from the politics that occurred on the USA based list. I sure found it informative starting with my old 230E W123.
