Benz owner for last 20 years.

Post by 300DE » Mon 29 Aug, 2016 8:30 am

Hi, I am new to this forum so I will have to say G'Day to everyone. I am also an Auto Sparkie worked for myself since 1985. As now in my sixties I have given up learning about new technology so I specialise in Older Classic car repairs. I have owned a W123 300D since 1996 and have only driven it for 47 odd thousand Ks in this time. Till date is had 250 ish thousand on the clock. The Car is absolutely immaculate. I hope you welcome me to the forum. Cheers.

I am always busy with My work and also I am a very keen Mini enthusiast. I am an active member of Mini Owners Club Queensland. I own 3 registered Minis too. Re posting Pictures on this forum I have no idea how to do it. Would love to show what my car looks like.

Welcolme.
As Mark has noted, ol'school tradesmen specializing in electrical are especially welcome.
Particularly in cars up to the mid nineties.

Modern cars are just Iphones with a car body wrapped around them - they don't count.

Welcome! You'll be able to post pictures (eg. Photobucket, etc) once you have 5 posts. This keeps the spam to a minimum. You can also update your profile to include your location. Helps when asking for any "local" info.

Lots of knowledge to be gained here! Again, Welcome aboard!

Shhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't start talking about Mini's here or Greg will start on about his clubman GT :laughing6: :laughing6: :laughing6: :occasion5:

Welcome to the forum. Now we know why you became a sparky - dealing with the Prince Of Death electrics in british cars would be enough to do that to you.

Don't I know it.

At least the 123 has schematics that are logical and very clear to read. Brilliant car. Love them to bits. Especially in Cayenne Orange or China Blue... maybe Caledonia green if you twist my arm a little.

welcome!

Or you'll get me started on my love of early round nosed Minis...

Welcome to the forum, I had owned a mini for 10 years before I bought my first W123 (also a 300D) - from a purely mechanical point of view the W123 is a dream to work on compared to the Mini, but the Mini more than makes up for it in the drive... :laughing6:

Thanks for your welcome Guys. It is good to get encouraging comments. I have been in Forums of other car brands where people tend to be a bit let's say stuck up. You people seem OK. I started my Auto Electrical Business back in 1985, namely "Auto Electrics On Wheels" now based in Jimboomba Queensland for the last 23 years. I also have a page on Facebook. However today I am not doing Much Mobile work due to the fact most cars today you cant work on them unless they are up on a hoist and secondly not many people want to pay for my time taken up driving to where the job is located. However most times Tow trucks bringing the car to me are cheaper and also a better idea. Like I said before I prefer to work on the older cars as these I can understand well. I have been doing Auto Electrics since 1971 when I lived in Malta I have worked on Many European cars and trucks and machines including Fiat Alfa and Mercedes. To be honest I am scaling down on my fleet of cars at the moment and the 300D is one on the list to sell. My kids, the youngest being 31 have no interest in old cars so I am selling most of them I also have 3 registered Minis plus I also have a very rare 1936 Fiat 500 Topolino which I actually brought from Malta and it is for sale too. I have owned this since 1976. I arrived in Australia in 1980. Any one interested or know any one who might be please send me a message. Also with Auto Electrics I am always here and I do not mind a challenge. I do a lot of rebuilds of starter motors Generators and wiper motors for interstate customers. Not many Old School Sparkles left today. All the rest want to do is replace things with after market copies when available. I wonder what they teach Auto Electrical apprenticed at collage today? Any way guys message me if you need me I am always here to help. Cheers Tony.
