Greetings All,

Im from Sydney and I am a Benz freshman... this is my first!
I have recently purchased my 2005 C180 Kompressor as a means of everyday transport and a weekend fun car.

I clocked up 2,500 kms over the Easter break after only taking delivery of the car the day before the long weekend & loved every hour behind the wheel!
I also own a couple of other vehicles of various capabilities and I must say, I am pretty impressed with the comfort & handling of this little Coupe!

I thought I would join the forum for tips & advise & hopefully be able to share information with like minded people.

Looking forward to meeting/chatting with you all!

Greetings fellow Benzers.. I am returning to the fold having owned 2 W123 300D's a few years back
and have now graduated to a W124 300D. Although only re-registered 2 days ago I am most impressed
with the vehicle so far and look forward to some quality kilometers.
Living outside Gympie I have an 81 year old neighbour Bernie who currently has 3 Benzes on the property
a 500SEC, an S430 and a 77 300D bound soon for PNG. A bad influence to be sure !!!
Having 2 left hands when it comes to maintenance I rely on Neville ' the wizard ' at Cardiff Garage for most fettling.
God help us all when he retires ... My learning curve with the 300D has commenced !
Cheers Brian

A Citroen Xantia is my other proud possession

Hi all, I'm in Adelaide and I'm a proud owner of a 2006 W211 E350 Avantgarde, which is my first Mercedes-Benz! I bought her a month ago because my 2003 Ford Focus Zetec was written off.

Needless to say, the Focus being written off was a good excuse to get a new car as I'd been wanting to buy something a bit more prestigious but couldn't justify getting rid of the Focus on a whim, plus she'd served me well. The E350 was the first car I test drove and there was an instant connection!

I joined the forum because there are a couple of things about the E350 that I'd like to know more about and it likely won't be my last M-B.

G'day from South West W.A.
I am looking at buying a 300D and having never owned a Mercedes before, I thought this might be a good place to get some info before I start shopping.
Hopefully I can learn enough to not buy a lemon ;-)
Looking forward to finding a good one, and interacting with other owners of these lovely old gems.
Cheers,
PhillT

hi,been wanting to join for ages.
I have been driving my blue grey(Grau Blau) 1979 300d since2010 and have loved it.bought in Melbourne with a very ill motor, which I rebuilt myself(not machining).just recently had some transmission quirks, which is proving to be a whole new learning experience.
I live in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Welcome all!

PhillT, I assume you are looking for a W123 series 300D. If so, both you and Experibenz27 will get plenty of useful advice from the many W123 owners and diesel enthusiasts on this forum.

I've only just discovered this forum and it's already provided a few answers so I thought I'd sign up.

I own a 2003 Sprinter, LWB 316CDI that has now done 108,000kms,
I bought it to carry all my worldly possessions when I moved down to Tasmania from Sydney four year ago. The plan was (probably) to sell the van when I got settled down but I've enjoyed driving it too much to do that. It's my only transport and is a pleasure to drive, if not park.
It's an ex-police van (bomb squad) and had done just under 60,000kms when I bought it. First trip was driving it from Hobart where I bought it, back to Sydney for the move. It was loaded to the maximum on the return trip but still drove well and returned good fuel economy.
The only work that has been done on it is a couple of oil changes and a new set of brakes earlier this year. The local MB dealer did the brakes but the oil changes I've done myself. It's about due for new tyres, not sure it they are original or not, and a transmission oil change. I was able to get some information from the government garage that serviced it while in police custody but not a complete service history.

I did try to enter the correct model number (I believe it's a w903?) but the registration page didn't let me do that so I had to lie about not owning a Mercedes. I can't correct this via the profile page.

Regards
Geoff

Greetings all, my names Eddie, I've been a subscriber of the Facebook page for a little while now, finally bitten the bullet and joined the forum.

I've owned my W124 260E since earlier this year, having dragged it out of a shed in a property in Gisborne, Vic, where it sat for a couple of years. While solid with no rust or interior damage, it did suffer from neglect, 9 hours cutting and polishing (1st phase, more to do) revealed the car to be white again, not the tan colour it first appeared to be, 2 owners, with the last owner having it since '93 with a comprehensive service history.

It's now roadworthy and club rego'd and used basically as a tinkering tool, which is great because there is a heap of niggly little issues with it which are slowly being sorted.

regards Eddie.

Hey All,

Jerry from Melbourne here.
Just recently purchased, at a considerable discount from the in-laws, a 2000 model CLK320 coupe - not sure if its an Elegance or Advantgarde?? (Some lowlife stole the owners manual from my garage recently :angry4: ). The in-laws are getting delivery of a new CLS 400 next week, so out with the old in with the new as they say :)
Silver in colour and has about 108,000kms on the clock. Regularly serviced since new, they only had to replace the fuel gauge sensors that sit in the fuel tanks. And the aircon has recently gone on the Fritz!
This car drives soooo much smoother and a more comfortable ride than our 2007 Honda Accord Euro Luxury.
I would like to update it a little bit, like replacing the cassette player head unit (although it does have a six CD stacker in the boot), getting bigger rims and replacing the grille to a CL style one. So, I thought this place might have the info that I need.

Time to read up!

Cheers,
Jez

Hi all, I'm coming on board as I got immediate value searching for ways to resolve an issue with the fuel pumps on my 124 coupe. Found and identified the FPR and found a blown overvoltage fuse, but pumps still do not run. Still, I'm one step closer to solving the riddle and will take it up with the relevant board. I ran my own European car workshop many years ago, mainly French cars dare I say Peugeot. I am not car snobby or centric in any way, as my spread of vehicles demonstrates, but I have come to appreciate the incredible build quality of particularly older Benzes. There really is nothing built in that bulletproof way. Yes there are faster and lighter cars, that are more sporty, but you try owning one and see how much time and effort you spend fixing them if you actually drive them any distance.

Hi,

I have been a forum member for a while and just realised i had not posted an intro - this is a great forum - My passion is the SL variant of Mercedes - 380SL (R107) and SL 500 both the R129 (1995) and the 230 (2003).

Been having over 18 months of sorrow with my R129 - misfirng - had everything done that the collective group who have worked on it can think of -

New throttle body, recod wiring loom(s), recod ignition module,

And the problem is intermittent
And it seems to be possibly somehow related to the O2 sensors, because when we connect the O2 sensors, the car behaves much better

Anyhow here are some pics of my 380SL 1982 model - original condition, OZ delivery with books about 150,000 kms

Hi All,

Very new here. Have recently purchased a 1989 190E. It's a Japanese import with 122xxx km and all the import paperwork and original contract of sale to verify that. It came through my work and as soon as I saw it, I knew who's driveway it would now live on.

It was somewhat an impulse buy, and I am now realising i know very little about these cars at all. But hey, it drives brilliantly, passed a roadworthy with nothing but a wiper blade so I was stoked.

Anyway, i'll put some photos up when I get around to taking them. In the meantime, i'll do some research and see what I can dig up about it. :)

Patty,
Welcome to Ozbenz forum. A friendlier bunch of enthusiasts would be hard to find.
Just a tip here, please put your location (nearby major town or city) into your profile ([user control panel] link at top LHS of page) so that if you are seeking advice about services or support, members can give you location specific advice.

It is really good to have the history of your vehicle. That, along with a good service history makes a big difference when selling a vehicle (mainly the rarer ones though).

Enjoy your 190E.

Just joined having been given the father-in law's 1983 230E (W123).

Perhaps not my first choice of classic car but I've been told it's the last of the "real" ones

Now the future involves oil leaks, rust, worn out parts and all the fun of an old car.

cheers

Welcome James. First car? Stick with it, you always remember your first car and you might be surprised who finds it a cool car. I recently sold a 1980 280s to a mate for his son. He goes to a private school (mainly because the mate is a teacher there) and most of the kids are in new cars but everybody loves his old Benz - always the one they want to take etc. And i couldn't have sold it to anyone better and he looks after it way better than i did and always looks a treat. He told me it has the best back seat of any car at school......... but don't tell dad i said that!

A lot of stuff you can do yourself, especially cleaning up and treating inside doors and box sections with body wax/tectyl/fish oil etc. which will get into all the nooks and crannys and seal up against rust. Lots of parts around, self serve wreckers etc. Great engine (M102?) and the basis for the greatest modern day sporting benzes. I sprinted the 280 at Mallala and most people couldn't believe how well it handled and got is power down for a standard car. Anyway good luck and lots of help on here.

Thanks Craig,

No not first car (too old for that and first classic was a Mark 1 Capri GT) but if my son does well in his HSC then it becomes his first. I'll also be directing him to do most of the dirty work.

We plan to get out to the NSW-MB club meeting to meet a few people and directions to "good" workshops for items we can't tackle ourselves and I also need to get hold of a user manual so I know what all those switches etc do

Hi from wintry Christchurch. I'm a W202 owner but a fan of Mercedes-Benzes both old and new. Have visited Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart twice! (Can I post pics somewhere?) We are now considering whether it's time to upgrade but will post a new question on the W202 forum. Have to admit we have also been considering and comparing other makes, too. Our one has gone well, regularly maintained by indie Kevin Burt, who I can recommend. I like Mercedes-Benz for design, engineering, ergonomics (I'm a journalist and write about some of these topics) rather than show-off features -- though some innovations are undeniably brilliant. Look forward to learning from the experts! :sign2:

Hi all,

Dan from Brisbane. Finally got myself into a W123 300D after looking on and off for a few years and never being in a position to "pull the trigger", due to kids mainly! I'm an old-school diesel fan and had always had a secret love for the OM617, despite owning a few diesel Landcruisers at the same time. I found my old girl on ebay and she was located in Canberra. I flew down this week to get her and then drove the 1200km's north to home without a drama. What a beast! Slow and reliable. I'm the third owner of this one, the original owner had her for 37 years!! I got a folder full of receipts form the late 70's through to 2014, which makes for interesting reading. Body is very average, but mechanically it seems tip-top, which is all I really care about. I love the engineering in these cars, especially under the bonnet, it just screams quality. They will never make passenger cars like this again. These were not "disposable" like modern vehicles now. The 5 cylinder diesel is just a great-sounding engine IMHO, especially idling along in undercover carparks! Anyway, this looks like a great place to gather info and looking forward to contributing.
Cheers,
Dan

hi all,
have been a long time reader and would like to thank all contributors for making this a very informative forum. I own a '65 220se w111 4 door, which I purchased back in feb 2012 (was the best damn bday present I ever got or got myself). You may know the car from JohnBSA's post "sharing the joy of finny ownership" or something of the like. So after reading all that time I thought I would join up. So keep up the good work everyone this is an awesome place.
cheers

I must have had my blinkers on. No idea why I assumed it was a wagon!

Hello everyone...

I'm based in Melbourne and been an avid follower of this site for a while now and love the information provided by everyone. I own a W124, R129 and a W211 at the moment. Yes, I love my Benzes and will never fall out of love with this marque. Thanks in advance to all those who help the rest of us so that we get to enjoy our interests with so much support!

Regards
:)

Hi!

I'm a new member from Perth :)

I have a 2004 CLK240. I have always loved Mercs and would love to restore an old 60s one someday.

At the moment I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about mine so I don't have to sell a kidney to fix problems as they arise!

Cheers all :)

Newbie here... just purchased a 95 E220. I couldn't justify the cost of buying a new merc (don't like the new styles that much anyway..).

Love the new old car!

Welcome! Nice choice with the E220, by looking at it you would swear that it's not a 20 year old car. The M111 16 valve engine is also so much more economical that the older 230Es.

Just be wary of the engine wiring loom, these were a common issue on late W124 models.

Hi all,
After more than 10 years search for a decent w111 I recently found it. I’ve been admiring these cars since I was a kid, and I’m very happy that I finally found one that rides very well. I’m sure I will use the forum much as I always like to get as much advices I can before doing work on the car. However, there is not that much to do. The car is a 220 SE, 1964, automatic, servo assisted steering. How do I attach picturs?

I believe that this thread may have attachments disabled.
I am a long term member of the forum and also am not able to upload attachments to this thread.

I will try starting another thread, and see if attachments can be uploaded.

Welcome! If you login and go to 'user control panel' (top left of screen under the ozbenz logo), click on the profile tab and then 'edit signature'. You can also change your avatar and personal info. It's a good idea to add a location so we know roughly what part of the country you're in too!
