Welcome to our new permanent home in cyberspace

A warm welcome to all the old :glasses2: familiar characters that make up the OZVETS group. We also extend a special welcome to all new members who have a special interest in the classic Mercedes Benz models that this forum supports.

Unfortunately, you will need to re-register, but that's not too painful is it

Thanks also to John Green for making this all possible.

Hi Tony

At this stage it doesn't look like this will be possible. eBlah and phpBB use different types of databases

I prefer the layout of this forum to the old one. Have a look at one of my favourite online forums at http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/index.php

I really like the layout of the topics at that forum, I know its not a Merc site but just shareing ideas

Hi Mike

This is just the sort of feedback we need. :D They are using forum software called vBulletin, which is very similar to this one in that the same scripting language is used. Actually, I thought the Alpha forum was almost identical in layout to our test forum, in that they have a board for each model and their specialist topics. The Alpha forum is of course a mature one and has grown to accomodate the demand for more boards over time. This is the great thing about these forums, the fact that they can grow. So, if you ever needed a board for "K-Jet injection", you just add one! 8)

As a new member to such a mature forum though, it can be a bit daunting as one would have to think about which board would be the most appropriate to post on. But with time, you get a feel for this. Anyway, a post in the wrong area is easily fixed and moved to the correct spot.

Keep those ideas coming and let us know about other forums you've seen which you think have done things well.
Cheers
Bruce

I'm looking forward to the revival of Ozvets. The absence of Ozvets has led to the exploration of other forums - where I found plenty of potential Ozvets members who would, I am sure, enjoy a classic-specific forum.

New here!

Post by Sav » Wed 26 Dec, 2007 11:34 am

Hi guys, I have just recently been converted and now have a w114 250ce coupe.

I plan on restoring it soon but for now I want to fix it mechanicaly and drive it (as I did when I bought it).

Now the car is drivable but sounds like its running 5 cylinders and therefore blows smoke, it is VERY slow on take-off and the alternator is gone.

When i bought it it was fine and i drove it everywhere.

I would like the mercedes gurus to give me my options, and anyone with spare parts to contact me asap.

Cheers Sav

welcome aboard Sav!

sorry I can't help with the mechanicals but would love to see some pictures of your coupe, these cars look really nice.

I'm sure shortly someone will be able to post some helpful info or make another post in the 114/5 section, sometimes it can take a few days for people to respond,

EDIT; woah I just realized I have some magic powers and can "copy" topics to other forums, have just copied your post over there for someone to jump in with some helpful advice.

where abouts are you located by the way?

where abouts are you located?

what sort of price range are you looking at?

V8?

what sort of period are you looking at or appeals most to you?

60's? 70's? etc..

this will help us help you.

Hi guys,
I'm located in Geelong, well i love the gangsta look of the 450SEL's and even the 280 and 380.

Im the kind of guy that likes to tinker so if the car needs a little work im happy to do so.

Going to look at a 450SEL tomorrow, will most likely need a timing chain done soon but im after a safe reliable car, even beeing a V8 doesnt bother me as i plan to get a gas conversion done, at the end of the day i plan for it to be a cruiser and not a race car :D

Hi ya Will.
One thing I've learned, is that a 280 uses fuel at almost the same rate as a V8. Especially in a big body like an SEL.
So I say, go for a V8 and enjoy it.
Good luck and remember to show us a photo when you get one.

I agree
4 cylinders = slow and uses lots of petrol
6 cylinders = reasonable performance uses about the same amount of petrol
8 cylinders = pleasure to drive, fuel consumption is a bit worse, hardly measurable though
6.9/8 cylinders = what an experience to drive, plant the foot and off we go!!!! 8MPG, yeah.....

New and random...really

Post by M110-108 » Tue 08 Jan, 2008 7:13 pm

G'day all!

My name is Aaron and I am new in the world of Merc ownership. I have recently been given a W108 as payment for building a pair of engines for a family member and thought I'd check out what for offer on the internet. I never imagined I'd own a Merc, not that there's anything wrong with them it was just unexpected that's all.
Sadly, a batch of bad fuel caused tennant no.5 to jump ship in the old girl and she was left in a paddock for around 5 years until she was given to me in december last year. But I'm not one to take the straight road so I began the task of fitting a M110 D-jetronic in place of the old SOHC twin carb. Call me crazy but I like retro (even if it is only a few years later in production.)
Well that's me. I own a few cars from different walks and this is no exception. I will post some pics when I figure out how.

Cheers for reading

hey DD !!

oh thats awesome !!! Brabus ROCKS !! post pics up when you can !
this is one of 5 cars we have at home hahaha. I will be upgrading to a black IS250 Sports Luxury very soon :)

now back to the SLK.

Im currently looking at this company in the US for the AMG kit, its not genuine, but it is polyurethane !! with all taxes and import costs I can have it landed for $1250US and with the awesome aussie exhange rate - it shouldnt be much of an issue. Only thing is 6-8 weeks wait.
I also have a set of 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear C63 AMG rims to go on !!
after that possibly some coilovers and that should be about it. the factory super charger is more than adequate performance on such a well reponsive car !

Blue300GE,

That is a very tidy looking G. I'm not up on the Gs but from memory the 300GE was not sold in Oz. For that matter I don't think any model G was available in Oz in 1992. Where did yours come from and does it have the M103 or M104 engine?

John,

I hope you are not implying that the rest of us non-G owners don't have any class or style?

Greg,

I tried to change my name to Blue300GE but my mum would have none of it, so call me Rhys.

You're right, no G-class' were available in the 90's in Australia. I'd have to check my books but from memory mine arrived in 1997 or so after being a UK car, then a Hong Kong car. The person who imported it to Australia brought out a black one at the same time and sold this one to a chap in Ballina, NSW about 5-6 years ago. I've owned it since July last year. Not sure on the engine number, but the guys here http://www.agoa.org.au/ would no doubt know (as they know everything else about them)

Cheers
Rhys

word up yo, blue G in da house....aight.

...and not before time!!! always glad to see more G's and hustlaz make it to ozbenz.

ok, i'll drop the snoop-d-o double G references while it's hot.

Never enough G-wagens around. I want a new AMG G55 but sadly the budget doesnt go remotely near that kind of $

with so much offroad cred, all the G's and homies should get in on the act.

could even tow a couple ton of GG with one of those.... nice

Ok shoot me. enough G references. It's nice to have you along. Hang on and enjoy the ride.

Joe.

An Introduction

Post by 230Rocket » Mon 21 Jan, 2008 11:39 am

Hi,
I've been reading around here for a few weeks now and knew it was high time to sign up. Name's Dean Heatley and I'm running a 1985 230TE for the time being. Came to Oz in October 2006 and brought my family over with the intention of migrating here full stop. Love it.

Spent a couple of years with the family living in France and Switzerland where I owned a 1969 280SE that sadly due to time and money never made it back onto the road in my hands. The Swiss would never have let me import it but my French neighbour bought it to sit alongside his Finnie, hopefully it's well. The Transport Einspritzung has been seeing us well until we got the Tarago, so now it's my station hack. I'm just about to do deal and swap it for a '64 Finnie from a guy up on the Central Coast so I'll be over to the W111 pages very soon with some Q's. If I could keep the wagon I would as it's a cool way to haul stuff about but I can only have one Benz. When my cousin's husband saw it for the first time he christened it "The Rocket", it'll be sad to see it go.

I speak very good German having lived there for several years back in the 90's and it's come in handy more than once with these cars, the manuals and bits and pieces where technical German uses words that are about ten minutes long!

I'm based south of Sydney in Sutherland Shire and actually bought the 230 wagon from MB Classic Star in Sydney, a great little story goes with that.
So that's me, looking forward to time and info swapping on here and getting to know if there's anybody roundabout with a common passion for these old Benzes.

bye for now
Dean
