Welcome to the most friendly forum on the 'net.
We have a couple of restrictions until you have 5 posts:
  • You can't add attachments;
  • you can't post links;
  • you can't use the messaging system;
  • we will not approve any for sale posts
So feel free to ask about your W210 from the others here who have these cars, or have knowledge of them.
A search of the appropriate model section will help you too.
After 5 posts, you are free from these restrictions.

Hi all,

Big fan of the older Mercedes-Benz. In particular the W123.

Used to own an A45 AMG. Spectacular car but prefer the older stuff.
Previously owned

2014 Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG Mountain Gray

Hi all,, Eligh here, thank you for accepting my request to join the forum, I am from good old sunny Brisbane and owner of a w202 c180 and c200, these are the first euro car that I have owned and so far I'm in love despite the age of them both. The c180 has got 170k on the clock and is in stock form but drives like a dream and the c200 has been molestered previously and is sitting at a stupidly low height in the front end so will definitely be looking for some advice and possibly parts for that in the near future. Cheers again.

Good Afternoon All!

Not a current owner, though mother has had settled on the marque having first sampled a decade ago.

I'm Jim, a motorsport enthusiast and general car tragic. I compete on the weekends hillclimbing and sprinting, and my wife has without any prompting expressed sincere admiration for the W113 SL pagoda series. I cannot disagree with her visual tastes, a very graceful car with timeless lines and proportions.

Anyhow, I'm here to gather information on this series to be better informed prior to possible making a purchase in the future.

Cheers all

Just realised I never did one of these previously.

I am a long time Merc fan with a w203 and looking to upgrade soonish. I would also love to pick up a vintage 80's SEC one day as well. :dance:

Just signed up. Have been researching all of the older girls from the 70's through to early 80's.

Wife wants me to buy a convertible but I'm heavily against that idea and am trying to find a decent coupe as a compromise!

a coupe is never a compromise for a cabriolet, only coupe owners think so :laughing5: ... the reasons not to buy a cabriolet can only be
a) you're shy
b) you're ugly
c) you don't have a hat to protect you from the sun

I know she is always right!!

But I have some other reasons such as requiring a decent back seat for our daughter (3 years old) and a lack of storage for any extra bits like a hardtop. Also trying to keep the length of any car under 4.9m as that's a perfect fit for my garage next to our other, very impractical, car which I can't take my daughter out in as it's too loud and finding a narrow car seat for it hasn't happened yet.

I would also like to keep this purchase south of $20k. Which really seems to put any convertibles out of reach. I only want to put the vehicle on historic rego so anymore than that amount feels like a waste.

I'm open to any and all suggestions from people though. So a basic list of requirements are:

* Auto
* Air condtioning
* Length up to 4.9m (could squeeze in 5m if it opens up a better range of cars)
* Sedan, coupe, wagon.
* Petrol only.
* Decent back seat for child in a booster seat soon.

I have no interest in anything fast. The other car has that area covered.

Sorry for not being model specific but I like so many of these early cars that I will be happy with pretty much anything that can meet our needs and wants!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cheers,

Andrew

Fiat 500 - abarth (if you want a rollerskate) or the standard ragtop if you want something cheap and cheerful. It meets all your criteria.
I'm kidding. (if you can't tell)...

No MB roadster under 20K. not a roadworthy one, that much is for sure.
No coupe is practical for a booster seat or for getting child in and out of the booster seat. in fact, most 2 door vehicles are a complete waste of ISOfix harness compatibility.
practicality says a wagon is the most suitable, but your garage issues will defy the meaning of practicality.
sedans are a sensible compromise.

Hi AMG,

Yes I think you are correct and a wagon or sedan will just simplify matters substantially.

Wagons appear to be fairly thin on the ground from looking over the last few months. Will have to setup some alerts on carsales etc and wait for something to pop up!

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi all,

After searching far and wide for a nice W116 I just purchased a 1990 W126 560 SEL last weekend from an elderly couple. Really enjoying the car so far. It's everything I hoped for and more.

The car has been very well looked after, having only driven 5000kms in the last 6 years. It does needs a few things addressed such as an occasional miss at idle, the rear passenger blind, missing globes, squeaking interior etc. which I'm looking forward to fixing.

Unfortunately there's one major thing not working... the climate control. If anyone thinks they can help me troubleshoot, feel free to send me a PM!

Cheers,
Adam

hello everybody! My name is Chris, I am a thirty-three year old male who lives in Victoria. My parents owned a lovely W210 E320 (reg. OTA548) when I was growing up, and I guess this is when the Mercedes Benz bug bit me. I used to read about W210 E55s in car magazines (Wheels and MOTOR) however as a teenager, owning one was merely a dream. Now i'm a bit older, I am seriously starting to consider looking for one (silver with the condor interior would be my pick!). The problem is finding one with low-ish kilometres is going to be a bit of a hard task given that they're now pushing 18 years old.

In the meantime, collecting Barloworld and Brighton Star grille badges will have to suffice. So, if anyone here has any that they wish to sell, please let me know, as I would love to add some more to my collection!

- Chris

A cab is a sedan with the roof chopped and a poor excuse for rear seats... A roadster is at the core of Mercedes DNA. NO rear seats (think about what that implies :dance: )

and since neither have a real roof, they both leave you at risk. Whether that be skin cancer, sunburn, windburn, wet or covered in pollution. :violent3:

At least the coupe can look Gangster. :rr:

I have an each-way bet, so I'm covered. I prefer the coupe for the lack of attention. Every time I drive the SL, people stare as if it's some sort of For King and country rarity. :dontknow:

Bragging rights come with a penalty... Anonymity is not an option with an open-top car.

Hi Chris,

welcome aboard.

210/211's are getting pretty hard to find in good condition.
If you are after the m113 blown engine, you're not going to find anything with low km - that much is a given - and finding one in decent condition will be even harder. I'd suggest you also consider a 211 E63 or even the e500. or a CLK55.
nearly all of these cars come with potential issues (SBC, airmatic, etc) so you really have to do some serious homework and get a PPI by an independent MB specialist who knows these models inside out.

You only need one of these things to go wrong on you and the cost of the fix could easily outweigh the value of the vehicle.

choose wisely.

Hi AMG, thanks for the warm welcome. I have considered a later model, however it's the facelifted W210 E55 that does it for me. This is the car I read about when I was growing up and I always wanted to own one and I don't think I could settle on anything other than one of those. It's going to be a tough ask, but I have seen some W210 E55s for sale for around the $20,000 mark and am hoping that when it comes time to seriously look that a nice car is out there for me.

Cheers,
Adam

i have a manuel on the climate control system for 126 if its of any help

Gday.
Presume I post here as a newbie.
Have had a Merc for a few years and like to know how to do stuff to add my little bits n pieces and to get the most out of it. Lucky to have just upgraded my W212 to a W213..

Hi everyone,
Just joined the group.
I have a W168 fun shift with 260k on it. Still goes really well.
Bought a W208 a couple of weeks ago. 106k on it. Really nice car.
Had a 180E for a couple of years which sold me on Mercedes.
Worked on Unimogs for years and have done a bit with G Wagon.
I look forward to participating in the group.
Cheers
Glenn
